Product Sales Channel Analysis

Product sales channel analysis is a critical part of your background marketing work if you sell more than one variant of your product or service. It’s not as complicated as it seems, and is vital when you consider one of the basic rules of marketing – the more targeted your marketing efforts, the more likely you are to succeed.

So your product sales channel analysis is just a question of making sure you are selling the RIGHT product or service to the RIGHT people.

Product Sales Channel Analysis

Obviously if you work in a large or complex organisation, it’s going to be tougher than this, but for a small or medium sized organisation, there are some simple ways to analyse what you should be selling to whom.

The easiest way to approach it is to draw up a grid marking out what you currently sell through which sales channel. So, for example, it might be blogging services to companies for whom the internet is a good source of new business, or direct mail to more traditional businesses with an established purchasing pattern. Work through the grid a second time, and compare to where each product is likely to make the best profit margins. Take the original grid round your colleagues – everyone will have a different and valid view point.

That sounds like the end result will be messy – but a team discussion considering everyone’s viewpoints will help you decide – as a business leadership team – your priorities. You are then in a position where you can focus your sales and marketing efforts on different products or services into the best market sectors.
