Managing Print Quality

Managing print quality is an often overlooked aspect of marketing, but can make a massive difference to how your business is perceived.

Managing Print Quality

There are a number of elements to consider:

  • Choose the right printer. Printing in house is rarely the best option, but how do you go about choosing a printer to help you create materials to match the quality of your business? It helps to know that most printers are specialist in something. So they each have an area where they are not only able to provide the right finish, but at the most cost effective rates too. A printer set up to handle bulk stationery orders isn’t going to be the right one to print your new brochure or even your Christmas cards.
  • Discuss the finish you are looking for with your printer in advance. Do you want a smooth velvety finish or high gloss effect? Does the item you want to print have folds – if yes, then you need to make sure they are printed on the right materials so paper and ink don’t crack. If you have several mages, do you want staples?
  • Don’t be afraid to go back to a printer if what you received isn’t what you expected. The mark of a good printer isn’t how often they get it right first time (although that helps, obviously), it’s more important to know how quickly they will put right any issues. We’ve just rejected a box of newsletters for a client as the folds have cracked. Within 10 minutes, the printer has agreed to reprint.

Most importantly, remember there is support out there. Most marketing companies have a pretty good feel for the local print market – as well as what can safely be sent online, and most will help you choose the right one for you.
