For some businesses, they only have a feel, because they have no measurement process in place. And that’s the first thing they need to improve for 2017 – if you don’t know what’s worked for your organisation and what hasn’t, how on earth do you know what to spend your marketing budget on next year?

OK, so you’re one of the companies that DOES measure the impact of it’s marketing. So, what worked for you, and what didn’t?

Once you’ve had a look at where your new and repeat business is coming from, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Are you measuring one-off sales or lifetime value?
  • Are you measuring return on marketing investment/cost of sale or just the amount of revenue an activity might have brought in?
  • Are there activities that could improve their performance with a little tweaking?
  • Have you made the most of every opportunity?
  • Which activities should be killed off completely?
